2024... What can I say!!!!!
Over the last 12 months, it hasn't been easy.
For the first 3 weeks, I ended up being signed off sick with a viral infection in my inner ear which then caused me to suffer from vertigo and having to get checked out in hospital.
This then took me weeks to get back to my normal self again and I felt so low during this period.
I was someone who had control of everything in my life to not having an inch of control with not even able to walk down the road without being exhausted.
During my time off sick, the evenings were the worst when it started getting dark and cold, I found myself crying at home because I just wanted to get back to normal again.
The worst thing about it all, was that there wasn't anything anyone could do for me other than just be there.
Due to it being a viral infection, there isn't any medication or anything that could help so I literally had to let my body fight it naturally (I want to go in to more detail into this in the future)
The biggest thing that helped me though it all was my support network being at the end of the phone.
With being so ill, I did have to take a step back from all my fundraising and campaign work for 6 months just to make sure I get back to my normal self again.
With all the above being said and how bad of a start I had, there were some positives too.
in October we saw the third year of our Oxford Half Marathon where we fundraised £2000 for The Lucy Rayner Foundation.
This was incredible and we managed to cover costs plus raise enough money to help fund counselling service to those who need it.
The 10 mile walks were back in July under our new name of Miles and Minds.
We had our first big event in December at the Botley Coop since the new store opened 4 years ago.
I managed to go and see some shows at the theatre and concert.
Here are my highlights from 2024
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Team Rayners for all the love and support over the last year and I cannot wait to see what this year brings for us.
I also want to say Thank you to Barry and Adam for all your continued support with letting me keep your pages up to date.
At the moment of writing this, other than the Oxford Half Marathon again this year, nothing is in the diary but I do have big ideas which I will be working on over the coming weeks so please keep an eye on this website for updates and the socials.
Hope you all have an amazing year ahead and I cannot wait to see you all.
Happy New Year.
Love
Steve
